Journalistically this is a very rich story. There are a lot of angles that I could have taken on this story. One is obviously the housing crisis. But another one I could have talked about is the history of Hempstead. In addition this story could have been primarily about the businesses of Hempstead, and how they were going to be affected by this redevelopment plan. In fact there is a group that may try to block any redevelopment project to help save local business.
For my story I am thinking that maybe I could have taken the angle of how this was going to affect the business community of Hempstead.. This is a story that does have a lot of angles. I could have talked about displaced businesses. Plus maybe I should ask Mayor Hall more about the obstacles that he could face in a proposed redevelopment.
For me Movie Maker is mixed bag. The program is much simpler than Avid, and therefore one can turn around a package much quicker. That is very good. Sometimes Avid can be so slow. But on the other hand Moive Maker lacks technical quality. One can only raise volume levels clip by clip on Movie Maker. Movie Maker also crashes sometimes and this can slow down work.
It is not a good idea to have a standup close as a requirement. Rather, I think it should be more of a strong reccomendation. Video is about creativity, and even in broadcast there are no absolute rules, just strong guidelines. There should be a second standup but I think using the second standup as a bridge between bites would help make the video better. I think opening with a standup is a good idea. All in all seeing a lot of these videos gives me good ideas that help get away from the sometimnes strict guidelines in broadcasts, and I think that it will help me to be more creative going forward.
